Hey y’all! As most of you know, I started my own nonprofit at the beginning of this year: 2022. I get a lot of questions about how it started + our journey so far… SO LETS TALK ABOUT IT. In October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) of 2020, I raised over $5,000 alone by running an online fundraiser for breast cancer awareness AND research. I decided to do this fundraiser again in 2021 (with an in-person event as well), and DOUBLED the money; raising almost $10,000 in one month by myself. Breast cancer has been such a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, so when I saw that I could make an impact… I did anything and everything I could to increase that impact. On January 8 of this year, I decided to start the nonprofit. It’s now called the To The Fullest Foundation, and we officially launched to the public on March 6. My team and I have worked our butts off through these past couple of months to get things done, and CONTINUE to do so. We had to get an EIN, name reservation, certification from the Secretary of State, and SO MUCH MORE. We are currently in the process of getting 501(c)3 certified, WHILE we still are continuing our normal activities. We have meetings + several events monthly, and we’re VERY active on social media. As the executive committee, it’s safe to say that a large portion of our free time is taken up by making sure that we get everything done (this isn’t even the surface of it). Thankfully, I have the best team (AND WE’RE EXPANDING OUR FAMILY RIGHT NOW - APPLICATION IN @tothefullestfoundation ‘s bio). However, in full honesty, there is always going to be a “limit” for us since we are student-run only (which WAS and still IS my biggest concern). Legally, we’ve had to face several difficulties that we are STILL working through. Socially, some people are still trapped in the idea that we are too young to be doing this (it can even feel like everyone is just waiting for us to fail). This list of “limits” can go on for forever, but 4 months in… I still think creating this foundation was the best decision I have ever made. I guess the cheesy lesson is: WHEN YOU’RE FACED WITH FEAR, TRY ANYWAY!! Subscribe for more :)
